In Loving Memory of Agustín González With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Agustín González. He passed away peacefully at his home in South Carolina on January 23, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so much and who loved him just as deeply. Agustín was a man of unwavering faith, a devoted member of his church, and a servant of God. His life was a reflection of his deep trust in the Lord, and we stand firm in faith, knowing he has been welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, lovingly embraced by our Heavenly Father. Born in Cuba in 1934, Agustín—known to his friends as Augie or Gutí—made the courageous decision to leave behind everything he knew, including family and friends, to escape communism and create a better life for his wife and three young daughters. Through hard work, determination, and a deep love for his family, he built that life, ensuring his daughters had every opportunity to succeed. He worked tirelessly at General Motors for much of his life, taking immense pride in the American vehicles he helped produce. As a proud new American, he instilled in his family the importance of hard work, the value of self-sufficiency, and the pride of being both Cuban and American. Throughout his life, Augie was a protector and provider, always putting family first. His love for his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was boundless. He was the kind of grandfather who couldn’t resist buying the silliest toys—no noisy, dancing alligator was ever left behind! He delighted in the joy of his family, and his sense of humor and spontaneity made every moment with him unforgettable. His generosity and kindness extended far beyond his immediate family. Augie was the man who showed up when you needed him, always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer encouragement. His loyalty and love for his extended family and friends left an indelible mark on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Through determination and hard work, Augie built a home at 404 Locust Street that became the heart of his family. It was more than just a house—it was the hub of togetherness, where memories were made, traditions were celebrated, love thrived, and all were welcome. Augie’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. Whether through his active involvement in Central Baptist Church of Elizabeth, NJ where he was a long-standing member, or the example he set through his words and deeds, he was a living testament to the power of faith, love, and service. He was proud of his heritage, proud of the country that gave him a second home, and most of all, proud of his family. His legacy of love, devotion, and steadfast faith will live on in each of us. Augie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laura Hernández-González; his three daughters, Elidia González Bolduc (David), Dulce Drapkin (Darren), and Yelena Horre (John); seven grandchildren, Rick Garcia, Nicole D’Andrea (Nicholas), Jessica Wolf (Kyle), Jennifer Drapkin-Smith (Amanda), John Horre (Josephine), Julianna Drapkin, and Jaclyn Horre; and six great-grandchildren, Aiden D’Andrea, Augie Garcia, Austin D’Andrea, Salvatore Garcia, Ella Wolf, and Everett Wolf. We will carry his memory in our hearts always, and he will never be forgotten. In this time of mourning, we take solace in the promise of Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
