Arthur Winston McCracken Sr

Alpharetta, GA… Arthur Winston McCracken, Sr., age 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Thursday January 16, 2025. Mr. McCracken was born in Conway, SC, a son of the late Honnie Jackson McCracken and the late Claudia Fowler McCracken. After a brief stint in the Marine Corps, Arthur moved to Charlotte, NC, where he started his family and began his entrepreneurial endeavors. In 1965, he moved to the Atlanta area, where his family and business ventures grew and flourished. From humble roots as the son of a sharecropper, Arthur was determined to work hard and succeed in his business endeavors for the sake of his family and to fulfill his American dream. Initially driving trucks, Arthur would go on to own numerous businesses, including laundromats, convenience stores and rental properties. In retirement, he returned to his love of the land, purchasing a large farm in Blackshear, GA. On the farm, he enjoyed teaching his children the value of the land and its resources. Although he spent most of his adult life in the city, he was a country-boy at heart. Arthur’s passion was truly his family. He believed in hard work and modest living. He taught his children the value of a dollar and the importance of authenticity. Ever the patriot, Mr. McCracken was dedicated to buying American made products, in solidarity with the average working man. Arthur was an automobile enthusiast, with a special love for Cadillac’s. He could be found most nights, tinkering on a car in his garage. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell stories and spend time with people. He will be greatly missed, but his memory and legacy will continue through his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCracken was predeceased by one brother, Lonnie McCracken. Survivors include four sons, Arthur “Buddy” McCracken, Jr. of Griffin, GA, Shannon Cornelius McCracken (Elretha) of Mableton, GA, Honnie Jackson McCracken (Rhonda) of Newnan, GA, and Arthur Wade McCracken (Julianna) of Carrollton, GA; two daughters, Serinda McCracken Moulton (Eric) of Wilmington, NC and Delinda Lee McCracken of Barnesville, GA; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Estalene Stillman of Canton, GA and Dalma Ree Braswell of Catawba, NC; and his loving former wife who was also his friend and caretaker in his final years, Linda McCracken Roberts of Tallapoosa, GA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday, January 20, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 20, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Rev. Eric M. Moulton officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
