Carl Anthony Plotzke Sr

Carl Anthony Plotzke, Sr. passed away on October 1, 2022, at the age of 89. He was born May 5, 1933, to Hattie and Anthony Plotzke in Chicago, II. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn, on June 26, 1954, at St. Andrews Church in Chicago. Marilyn and Carl lived in San Diego, Ca while he was in the Navy and served on the USS Piedmont. Carl and Marilyn moved to Atlanta before settling down with their family in New City, NY. He worked in Distributing Sales and Services for General Foods. After retiring, he opened and ran Post Master Ltd in New City before moving to Surfside Beach SC, where he opened EmbroidMe with his son, Carl, Jr. Carl and Marilyn enjoyed travels all over the world, with special memories from Alaska, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and a cross country trip. They loved spending the summer at their lake house in the Poconos with their children and grandchildren. Carl had a tremendous devotion to helping others, which included organizations such as Venture and Meals on Wheels. He was past Grand Knight and proud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member. Carl was an avid gardener from roses to an abundance of vegetables. He enjoyed fine foods and his sweets- he never turned down a Fanny May pecan turtle! In his later years, Carl "Big C", took great pleasure in remaining in touch with family and friends near and far. Carl is predeceased by his wife Marilyn (October 6,2021) and beloved son in law, Moe Morrison. He leaves behind his children Carleen (Kevin), Kim (Jim), Carl (Kelly) and Mary Beth (Claus). Blessed to call him Grandpa are Sean (Jacquelynn), Erin, Kaitlyn, Malissa (Steve), Victoria, Christopher, Tabitha (Dalton), Calista and Kaeli, and his "greats", Kieran, Liam, Maggie, Elle and Alaina. Daddy's hands were big. They were beautiful. They were the extension of his big heart. You see, dad was a man of few words, but his hands spoke volumes. Those hardworking hands provided and served. Those beautiful hands always reached for moms to hold on to. Those were the hands that started our dinners with a blessing. They guided us in our dedication to faith and the importance of prayer. He provided a beautiful home for our family. He took pride in his rose bushes and his expansive garden. He dedicated our mudroom to family and friends with the infamous yellow handprint walls. His creative mind influenced his hands in many projects of appreciation such as a cast of his eye surgeon's hands after the surgeon restored his vision. He was a perfectionist, a proud man with a zest for life and an endless desire to do. The proud man, with a big spirit is once again holding hands with his lifelong love after 360 days apart. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and those whose lives he touched with his kind spirit. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the healthcare workers and caregivers who cared for our dad over the years. A celebration of Carl's life will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 10:00AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave. Garden City, SC 29576. Donations can be made in honor of Carl Plotzke to Embrace Hospice House General Fund or Embrace Hospice Veteran's Fund who took special care of our Dad during his last days. Embrace Hospice House of Conway Medical Center 300 Singelton Ridge Rd, Conway, SC 29526 Burroughs Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, is assisting the family.
