Obituary for Carlyle Johnson Loris...Carlyle Johnson, age 75 of Highway 67 West died Monday, December 9, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center following an illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Horry County, a son of Alberta Lewis Johnson and late John Gary Johnson. After many years of exploring other parts of the country, he returned to settle in Loris. Mr. Johnson proudly served as a U.S. Marine from 1956 to 1959. He was recently retired from Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs where he supervised a yard crew and taught adults with disabilities life skills that helped earn them a salary. He loved his work there and his special needs friends. Mr. Johnson was an active member of White Savannah Original Free Will Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He loved and enjoyed his church family and looked forward to participating in any and all church activities. If the church doors were open, you would likely find him there. He was never an idle person, spending his free time working in the yard, garden, or on projects - of which he had many. Mr. Johnson also loved to collect recipes and cook for his family - mealtime was a favorite for him. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence G. Johnson, Laverne Johnson, Edwin E. Johnson and a sister, Doris Johnson. Surviving in addition to his mother of Loris are: his wife Mary Louise Johnson of Loris; daughters Priscilla Benton (Jamie) and Patricia Thomas (Jimmy) of Conway, Cindy Chauvie (Phil Jacobson) of Loris, and Michele Johnson of Chapel Hill; sons Lance Johnson (Deborah) of Aosta, Italy, Greg Johnson (Nadwa) of Washington D.C. and CJ Stone of Seattle Washington, grandchildren Jessie Benson, Trey Thomas, Shelly Thomas, Michelle Peavy, Samantha Benton, Brad Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Seth Johnson, Kasey Johnson, and Nicky Johnson and one great grandson, Trey Stevens; sister, Sarah Johnson (Jody) of Loris; and brothers, John Gary Johnson, Jr., of Loris and Elwood Johnson (Theresa) of Tabor City, NC. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday from White Savannah Original Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Hyman and Robert Brown officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Saturday.
