Daphne Irene O'Banion

Daphne Irene O’Banion (Adams) passed away peacefully at Vidant Heart Institute, Greenville, NC, on January 30, 2018, with family around her. Daphne was born in Middleton, Suffolk, England, the sixth child of Harry and Christabel Adams. Daphne was the loving wife to, and survived by, Douglas, of 59 years. Caring mother to, Sharon (Rudy) Mim, Robert (Renee) O’Banion and Shawn O’Banion. A doting grandmother to, Rhiannon Mim, Douglas Mim, Timothy O’Banion, Grace O’Banion and Ella O’Banion and great-grandchildren, Alexander Mim, Dominic Mim and Annabelle Mim. She also leaves behind family in England – sister Barbara Neaverson, Barbara’s husband Derek, sister Sheila Nunn and brother Jim Adams along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her sisters; Pansy, Myra and Doreen, in death. Daphne loved gardening. Always raising vegetables and fruits. Canning much of the produce from the garden and making wonderful jellies and jams. She also was accomplished as a seamstress, quilter and cross-stitcher, making clothes and quilts for the grandchildren along with cross-stitched Christmas ornaments for many years. Daphne was also known for her cooking and baking, usually was asked to bring a dessert to gatherings. She met Douglas O’Banion, stationed at a US Air Force base, at a New Years’ Eve party. They married in 1958 and had daughter, Sharon. They were transferred to McClellan AFB in North Highlands, CA in 1960. Son, Robert, was born there. In 1965 Douglas was sent to Vietnam and Daphne, with the children, moved to Louisiana to live near Douglas’ family. When he returned in 1966 they were transferred to High Wycomb AFB in England. Son, Shawn, was born during this stay. In 1970 they were transferred to Myrtle Beach AFB. Douglas retired from the Air Force in 1971 and the family moved back to California where they had a home purchased from the previous stay there. In 1972, the family made the move back to the Myrtle Beach area where they settled in Socastee and remained until 1999 when they moved to Conway, SC. Moving to Greenville, NC, in 2017 to be with Sharon and Rudy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the following, in memory of Daphne’s sister, Myra Adams: Eden Autism Foundation, 2 Merwick Road, Princeton, NJ 08854, Attn: Development Dept.Online at: www.edenautism.org. Funeral Services will be held 11am Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Homewood Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
