Ellen Imogene Crump Self

Ellen Imogene Crump Self, age 82, of Indigo Creek in Murrells Inlet, SC., went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2021. She was born December 26, 1938 in Lenoir, NC, the daughter and only child to the late Jasper E. Crump and Bessie Leigh M. Crump. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne M. Self, daughter, Jeanne Self Campbell and her husband Steve Campbell of Raleigh, NC; son, Paul E. Self and his wife, Gail Self of Conway, SC; six grandchildren, Rachel Campbell Ordia with her husband Joe Ordia and Abigail Campbell Merrill with her husband John Merrill: Christian Self, Lauren Self Maney with her husband, Nick Maney, Brice Self and his wife Ciarra Self, and Gabriel Self. Imogene resided in Charlotte, NC for 37 years where she raised her family and worked in churches. She was an accomplished musician. She served as organist and music director for St. Mark’s Methodist Church and served as music coordinator for Sharon Baptist Church, directing various levels of choirs. She worked as secretary for New York Life’s field agent during the 1980s. In the early 90’s, she was employed as church secretary for St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She and husband later retired to Murrells Inlet, SC where she established ownership of ”Flowers by Imogene”, an interior design service and was also an active member of Coastal Carolina Decorative Painters. She was also a Red Hat. She authored and taught a four-year inductive Bible study for ladies of all denominations in the 90’s. She directed handbell choirs, vocal choirs, and served as interim pianist. She was an active member of Solid Rock Baptist church as well as a member of St. Michael’s Charismatic Prayer Group. Her deep abiding faith was exemplified in many areas of her life, especially with her family. She embodied the Proverbs 31 woman. “Well done that good and faithful servant.” (Matt 25:21) There will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1000 SC-544, Conway, SC 29576 on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Clayton Casteel of Solid Rock Baptist will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Solid Rock Baptist Church, 9623 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588 or The Alzheimer’s Association, https://alz.org.
