LeGrand Richard Petty

LeGrand Richard Petty was born December 02, 1956 in Columbia, SC to James Petty and his wife Nina (nee' Wynn). He passed away Saturday, November 09, 2019 in Washington, MO at the age of 62 years. LeGrand received his education in Hartsville, SC and graduated from Hartsville High School. He continued his education at Brigham Young University and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing at Webster University. Mr. Petty was sealed in marriage to Lora Street on August 24, 1979 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington D.C. Temple. The couple made their home in Provo, UT. They later moved to Conway, SC in 1981, St. Louis, MO in 1984 and then settled in Washington, MO in 2001. LeGrand was employed as a courier with Federal Express for many years and then enjoyed a successful business management career in retail. LeGrand was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Washington Ward and was a leader among his church community. He served a mission in Japan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the bishopric for many years as First Counselor. He was an excellent teacher of The Gospel and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. Throughout his life, LeGrand had a special talent for making others feel welcome and happy. In his youth, LeGrand was involved in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the organization's highest rank--Eagle Scout. LeGrand was a very loving father and a devoted husband. Later in life, he was a very active and involved grandfather. LeGrand was preceded in death by both parents; his mother-in-law, Laureda Henry; his father-in-law, Howard Street; and two step-fathers-in-law: Donald Henry and John Edstrom. He is survived by his wife, Lora Petty; two sons: Legrand "Rich" Petty II and wife Evalyn of St. Louis, MO and Bryan Petty of Washington, MO; one daughter, Adrienne Petty of Washington, MO; two sisters: Cheryl Petty of Surfside Beach, SC and Alayne Brown of Myrtle Beach, SC; four brothers: James Petty and wife Terry of Atlanta, GA, Joel Petty and wife Kailyn of Columbia, SC, Zane Petty and wife Kerry of Tampa, FL, and Kurt Petty of Surfside Beach, SC; seven grandchildren: Ariana, Anna, Maxwell, Violet, Aiden, Elliott, and Harper; step-mother-in-law, Betty Street of High Ridge, MO; other relatives and many dear friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 15, 2019 at 8:00 PM at Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, MO with Bishop George Fuhriman officiating. Visitation will precede from 6:00 PM until the time of service. A second memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hartsville, SC with Bishop Heber J. Watson officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, SC on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Mr. Petty to The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. The Petty family is served by Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, MO.
