Lula Faulk (Faulk) Donovan

Obituary Lula Faulk Donovan, age 73, beloved wife of 43 years to Gerard Donovan, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Lula Faulk Donovan, daughter of the late Acie Faulk, Sr. and Nell Rice Faulk, was born in Conway, South Carolina on July 30, 1941. After the death of her mother, Lula was reared and nurtured by her aunt, Agnes Rice and step-mother, Rosa Lee W. Faulk, who preceded her in death. At an early age, Lula was baptized at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and currently a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Sumter, SC. Lula was a graduate of Whittemore High School Class of 1960. She attended Claflin University, graduating in 1968. She later attended South Carolina State University where she received the Masters of Education in 1970. She served as a classroom teacher for 42 years in the District of Columbia and Maryland School Districts. She developed a curriculum for NASA for students in elementary and middle schools. Because of her love and dedication for students, she received many accolades and awards. Lula loved growing flowers, crocheting scarves, hats, and afghans. Because of her love for others, each time she went in for her treatment, she crocheted hats for the cancer patients. Lula's memories will be cherished by a devoted husband of 43 years, Gerard Donovan; one son, Eric (Tracye) Donovan; two daughters, Donna (James) Johnson and Christina (Alvin) Norman; nine grandchildren, Sherwin, Myles, Danica, Lauryn, Donovan, Tyler, Madison, London and Bump; one sister, Faye F. Smith; several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews as well as a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Rev. Acie Faulk, Jr., Sidney Williams, and Wendell Faulk; three sisters, Halestine Kinlaw, Sarah B. Friend, and Alene Holman. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 12:00 pm at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1503 Dirty Branch Road, Conway, SC 29527. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, 1000 SC Highway 544, Conway, SC 29526. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home, 1190 Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC 29150 with a Wake Service starting at 6:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 4, 2015 one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
