Margaret E (Ellis) Barnes

Margaret Barnes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 8, 2024, with her son Marc by her side, following complications from a stroke and heart attack that both occurred this year. She was 79 years old. Born on October 22, 1944, in Lewisburg, West Virginia, Margaret was the twin daughter of the late Joyce and William Ellis and the stepdaughter of the late James (QB) Quattlebaum. Her early years were marked by a rich cultural experience, having traveled extensively and lived around the world as the daughter of an Air Force officer, she graduated from Paris American High School in Paris, France, in 1964. Following graduation her family would eventually settle in Myrtle Beach where she eventually met her future husband and father of her only son. Margaret and her family were previously residents in several locations in SC and Florida before she eventually re-settled in Myrtle Beach where she spent the final twenty years of her life. Margaret's career reflected her dedication and compassion. She obtained her cosmetology license in 1965 and continued her education, earning her Medical Assistant certification in 1972. Over the next 40 years, she worked in various medical practices, spending the final decade of her career with Carolina Health Specialists before retiring in 2014. A cherished member of First United Methodist Church and the Ark Sunday School Class, Margaret was known for her kindness, humor, and spirited personality. She was both spunky and resilient, sometimes even being known for her stubbornness but at her core, she was a woman with a deep love for her family, a fervent faith in God, and a passion for watching sports. Her caring nature touched many lives, and she will be remembered for her strength and devotion. Margaret is survived by her son, John "Marc" Barnes, his wife Stephanie, and grandsons Stephen and Matthew. She also leaves behind her twin sister, Marsha Renigar, and her children J.J. and Kevin and their families, as well as her brother, Marc J. Ellis, his wife Janet, and their children Ashley and Ryan and their families. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel Mausoleum at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, SC, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Church of Myrtle Beach or the Myrtle Beach Animal Shelter. Margaret’s legacy of love, faith, and unwavering spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be sorely missed but her family is happy for her as she has gone to serve God the Father and rest along side him in heaven.
