Mary Wilson Lamond Wilson

Mary Wilson Lamond Wilson died peacefully at home on December 10, 2024. Born March 2, 1932 in Washington, DC, she was the only child of the late Angus Wilson Lamond and Virginia Mullen Lamond. She spent her early life in Alexandria, Virginia, graduated from George Washington High School, and then attended Duke University where she became a registered nurse in 1953 and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education in 1955. While at Duke, she met her husband, John W. Wilson, Jr., and after he completed his medical training, they moved from Durham, NC to Conway, SC where she lived the rest of her life. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. John W. Wilson, Jr. and 3 children, Scott Wilson (Sue) of Cookeville, TN, Mark Wilson (Leslie) of Conway, SC and Brett Wilson (Richard) of Carrboro, NC. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Luke Wilson (Christa), Virginia Carlos (Josh), Austin L Wilson (Jacqueline), Gloria Novaa (Alex), Austin S Wilson (Jessina), Fisher Wilson, and Martha Wilson, and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Dr. John W. Wilson, III. As a member of Kingston Presbyterian Church, she assisted for many years with the after-school children’s choir program and was in the adult choir for over 50 years, rarely missing a Wednesday evening rehearsal or a Sunday worship service. Additionally, she was an active member in the Conway Hospital Auxiliary program. An astute, empathetic and engaged listener, she possessed an appreciation and memory for the small, intimate and intricate details of the lives of everyone around her, documenting important moments like birthdays, marriages, anniversaries, births and deaths in her trusted date book. She had a deep love of music, nature, animals, and all children. Attentive and loving wife, patient and kind mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and steadfast friend to many in the Conway community, she will be missed dearly. Special thanks to daughters-in-law Mary Alice, Leslie and Sue and son-in-law Richard for their endless support, visitations, kindnesses and culinary contributions. The family also expresses deep gratitude to Shirley Butler for her years of thoughtful and excellent caregiving, and to Georgia Ward in the past few weeks for providing additional attentive and gracious care. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Kingston Presbyterian Church in Conway, SC, with reception to follow in the fellowship hall. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. Arrangements are by Goldfinch Funeral Home of Conway.
