Preston Jay Frey

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Preston J. Frey, who passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born on September 6, 1957, in Holden, Massachusetts. Preston was a cherished member of the Grand Strand community in South Carolina, where he was known for his warm spirit, deep friendships, and kindness. He touched the lives of many through his work, personal relationships, and passion for golf, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Preston was an active worshipper of Jesus Christ at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Georgetown, South Carolina. His life reflected his faith and belief that salvation is gained by ‘faith alone, in Christ alone’. We rejoice in the confidence that he now resides in eternal glory with his Lord and Savior! Preston was a 40+ year employee of Schnabel Engineering, Inc headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. He rose in the ranks from field staff to a division president and executive board member. He was known not only for his technical expertise, but his leadership, wisdom, and mentorship of colleagues. Preston’s surviving relatives include his son Adam Frey (North Beach, MD) and daughter-in-law Missy Frey, granddaughters Kaitlyn and Kara, sister Holly Stillwell (Virginia Beach, VA) and brother Keith Frey (Scottsdale, AZ), along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preston’s death was preceded by his father Arnold R. Frey, Jr., mother Doris E. Frey, and brother Brian R. Frey. Preston ran his race of life well, and he finished strong with his career, family and God. Final arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, 1000 SC-544, Conway, SC 29526.
