Primitivo Ortega

Myrtle Beach Primitivo Ortega, 95, passed away on December 29, 2022, with his wife and children by his side. Primitivo was born on February 5, 1927, in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba to the late Jesus and Isabel Ortega. Primitivo served proudly in Cuba's military, fighting against the communist regime. After narrowly escaping death, he ultimately came to the United States in search of a better life for his family, where he eventually became a U.S. citizen. Primitivo was very proud of his Cuban heritage and culture but just as proud of being an American and appreciative of all the opportunities provided to him by this country. He believed that the highest honor and privilege we could have was to vote, and to that end, encouraged everyone to do so. Primitivo was also known as a man of compassion who opened his home and heart to anyone in need, specifically those starting out in this country. Through hard work and determination, Primitvo was able to achieve the American dream for his family. After his retirement he found joy in gardening where he grew many vegetables, but he was most known for growing the best Jersey beefsteak tomatoes. In 2019 he moved to Myrtle Beach to enjoy the milder weather. He loved spending time sitting outside where all the neighborhood dogs would eagerly stop to greet him. Primitivo was a loving and caring husband, incredible dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. Above all he was a devout Christian. A Faithful man of God who prayed endlessly for everyone. Our hearts are broken, but we will carry on with the strength and joy for life that Primitivo brought to everyone each day. We will hold him close forever and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Primitivo was preceded in death by three of his children Georgina, Alexi and Maritza. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Pedro, Antonio, Luisa, Caridad and Hilda Elisa. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years Julia; children Manuel, Pablo, Maritza, Andres, Grisel, Norma, Xiomara, Orlando, and Primitivo; 27 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Viewing for family and friends will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Goldfinch Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM at the Chapel. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. An additional Celebration of Life Service will be held in New Jersey, on January 14, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Iglesia Bautista Hispano-Americana, 859 Martin Street, Elizabeth, NJ 07201. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is assisting the family.
