Conway…. Virginia Wienges Smith, age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 24, 2021. Ginger was born in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Henry Lawrence Wienges, Sr. and Virginia Davis Wienges. She was a devoted Christian and an active member of Westminster ARP Church, where she taught Sunday School. After thirty-five years of public-school teaching, Mrs. Smith retired from Horry County Schools. She was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Ginger was predeceased by her husband, Mickey, of 49 years and her nephew, Michael. Survivors include her two daughters, Becky Haigler (Mike) of Cameron and Shelley Skipper (Andy) of Galivants Ferry; and three grandchildren, Rebekah and Emily Haigler and Masen Skipper. She is also survived by her sister Cathy Martin (George) of Cheraw and Dr. Lawrence Wienges (Becky), of Orangeburg, and four nieces and two nephews. Ginger spent her leisure time with her beloved family as much as possible. She especially enjoyed reading, spending time at Lake Wateree and the beach with her grands. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Open Air Chapel, with Pastor Watson Gunderson officiating. The family will receive friends at the grave following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westminster ARP Church, 1619 Park View Road, Conway, SC 29526 or Crescent Hospice Conway 1516 East Highway 501 Unit 101, Conway SC 29526. The family would like to personally thank Crescent Hospice and her two special caregivers for their love these past months.
