Obituary for Dorothy Chinery Dorothy Louise Saunders Chinery age 88, of Suffolk, Virginia (formerly residing in Woodlake Village, Murrells lnlet), died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Lake Prince Woods. Born March 6, 1926 in Morristown, N.J. she was the daughter of the late lda and Holloway Saunders. Dorothy graduated from Morristown High School and in 1947 graduated from New Jersey College for Women, Rutgers University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nutrition. After graduation she was employed as a Dietician at Muhlenburg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey. Dorothy married Frank Chinery in 1948 and a year later began devoting herself to raising the first of what would become three children in Teaneck, N.J. A loving mother and wife, she was actively involved in the local PTA, served as a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and Little League Mother. Additionally, Dorothy was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Teaneck and Murrells lnlet Presbyterian Church, after she and Frank moved to South Carolina in 1988. ln the mid-1970's Dorothy and Frank were bitten by the travel-bug becoming avid world travelers and vacationing in 48 of the 50 states. On more than one occasion the couple would show up at the Myrtle Beach airport with two suitcases-one filled with warm weather clothes and the other cold weather-and decide their destination at the airport counter. When not traveling, Dorothy always enjoyed a fair-weather round of golf, games or bridge and lunch with the "girls'. For 17 years, she and Frank hosted annual week-long family reunions in Murrells lnlet. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and brother Joseph. She is survived by her son Gary and wife Linda; daughter, Victoria and husband Mark; son Bruce and wife Cara; four grandchildren-Sandra and husband Matthew, Doug and husband Colin, Nadia and Olivia; great-granddaughter, Violet; sister Natalie Claire and husband Dave; and sister and brother in-laws Beverly and Wilbur Chinery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 10:00-noon at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Hillcrest Cemetery.
