George Knight

George “Grampa” Knight, age 82, passed away on January 26, 2023 surrounded by his family who he adored more than anything else in this world. George was born February 16, 1940, in Mount Vernon, New York and was the youngest of 6 children. While he lived in Nassau Lake, he met his sweetie Caroline (Sokol), they married on August 19,1962, had 2 daughters, and continued to share over 60 beautiful years together. George was an amazing husband and father who always made time for all his girls. He worked for the NYS Office of General Services for 38 years and when he retired in 1995, he could be found remodeling their house, and puttering on his boat and dock on Saratoga Lake. In 2005, George moved his family to Myrtle Beach where he became an active member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Misfits On the Beach (MOB) supporting Down Syndrome and a member of the architectural committee for his community HOA. George was best known for his unwavering love for his family, infectious smile, witty sense of humor and his sparkling baby blue eyes. He was a kind, compassionate, gentle soul who could fix anything and would always take the time to help anyone in need. George is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Caroline (Sokol); his two daughters, Tania Marie Appel (Andrew) and Kimberly Ann Knight-Magilton; three grandchildren, Steven Wayne Brand (Dani), Kasey Lee Ludwick (Rob), and Noah James Magilton; five great-grandchildren, Marlee Shea Ludwick, Dylan Joseph Ludwick, Isabelle Rea Ludwick, Natalee Grace Ludwick, Lincoln Christopher Ludwick; one sister, Jean Light (Ed), and his faithful canine companion, Jax. George was predeceased by his three brothers; William Knight (Elaine), Frank Knight (Karen) and James (Sally); along with his sister, Doris Gardner (David). The family will receive friends during a visitation at Goldfinch Funeral Home - Carolina Forest Chapel (325 Hinson Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29579) on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A service to celebrate his life will follow from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, also at the funeral home, with Darren Squires officiating George will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery (1000 Highway 544, Conway, SC 29526) at a later date, to be announced.
