Dr Herbert Leonard Shrieves

Dr. Herbert Leonard Shrieves, 75, of North Myrtle Beach, passed away on April 12, 2023, at his home with his beloved family by his side. Herbert was born November 28, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, as the youngest son of the late John and Virginia (Causey) Shrieves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two older brothers, John and Robert Shrieves. On August 10, 1969, Herbert married the love of his life, Sheila (Montroso) Shrieves, whom he had known since high school. He was a devoted husband, loving Dad, and adoring Grandpa who went above and beyond for his family. As a young man, Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves, where he commissioned as an officer in 1969. After being promoted to the rank of Captain, he was appointed as an Air Defense Artillery battery commander at Fort Bliss, TX before completing his service obligation in 1977. Herbert attended and graduated from North Carolina State University with his Doctorate in Mathematics and Western Maryland College with his Bachelor of Science in Physics. Prior to his professional retirement, he worked locally with the educators and administrators of Horry County Schools as the District Testing Coordinator. In his leisure time, Herbert enjoyed the special role of being a Grandpa, playing golf, and sailing. Herbert is survived by a large and loving family, including his faithful and caring wife of 53 years, Sheila Shrieves; his son Michael Shrieves; his daughter Janet (Shrieves) Curry; his seven grandchildren, Madison Wood, Jordyn Wood, Brianna Wood, Rylan Shrieves, Avery Shrieves, Sawyer Shrieves and Easton Shrieves; as well as many friends and colleagues. A funeral service to honor Herbert will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Hillcrest Cemetery Mausoleum Indoor Chapel (1000 Hwy 544, Conway, SC, 29526). Military funeral honors will be presented by the South Carolina Army National Guard.
