Patricia Ann Johnston

Myrtle Beach… Patricia Ann Johnston was called home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2023, with family and loved ones by her side. She was born at home in Horry County on November 26, 1937. She was a Christian woman who served the Lord and her community throughout her life. She had many roles including bank teller, hotelier, wife, Mom, Nana, and caregiver. No matter the situation, she lived with love, compassion, and unwavering faith. She openly shared her kindness with anyone she met. Her fiery spirit brought great memories and laughs to all who knew and loved her. She enjoyed baking and oftentimes made bread for communion at Salem Baptist Church. In years past, she found joy in arranging the flowers for church services at Brown Swamp Methodist using roses from her garden. Her favorite activities included spending time with loved ones, reading recipe books, and making treats to share with family and friends. Almost every holiday was marked by her sharing decorated cake-pops that her and her long-time friend and caregiver, Irene Rivera helped make. Although the cake pop flavors were always a mystery, the love they were made with was always felt by all. Patricia/Nana never missed a celebration and proudly decorated her house for every holiday. During Christmas, her house would always twinkle with Nativity Scenes, Christmas trees, and Christmas villages. It brought her joy to share the Christmas spirit with family, friends, and neighbors. Surviving are her three sons, Shafter M. Johnston Jr. and his wife, Kim of Bozeman, Montana, Chris Johnston of Murrells Inlet, and Timmy Johnston and his wife, Astrid Johnston of Myrtle Beach; one daughter, Karen Johnston of Myrtle Beach; one brother, Wendell Smith and his wife, Pam Smith of Conway; nine grandchildren, Shafter M. Johnston III (Margaret), Chandler Johnston, Colter Johnston (Laura), Ann Taylor Adams (Christopher), Baylor Abbott, Stratford Abbott, Foster Johnston, Salem Johnston, and Kaileah Fasciano; two great grandchildren Waylon and Eliza Ruth; special niece, Pamela Smith, and longtime friend and caregiver, Irene Rivera. She also considered Pamela Smith and Irene Rivera her daughters. Since her passing she has been reunited with her late husband S.M. Johnston, parents Woodrow and Mattie Belle Smith, and siblings Carol Jean Legette, Linda Smith, and Lynn Smith. Although she loved all, in respect to her wishes, a private service will be held.
