Richard Edwin Hillesheim

Richard Edwin Hillesheim, 76, of Lancaster, SC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 27th, 2023. Rick was born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota on January 16th, 1947, to parents Daphne Smith and Henry Hillesheim. Rick was in commercial real estate with the Family Dollar-Dollar Tree Company for over 20 years. When Rick wasn’t working, you could find him repairing antique clocks for friends and family, tinkering around the house on home improvement projects, traveling, volunteering for the Joni & Friends ministry, and most importantly, visiting his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Rick met the love of his life, Christine Driessnack, and the two were married August 4th, 1979. They were married for 43 years and would have celebrated their 44th anniversary this August. Their deep love for each other grew even more in the last few years as they settled into their retirement home in the Lancaster, SC area. Rick’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was very active in the Church, most recently at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in Matthews, NC. He had a passion for studying scripture and loved to discuss complex theological doctrines. He was active as an usher at Christ Covenant and faithfully attended Thursday morning Bible Study with men he had grown to love and respect, even on the day of his heavenly homecoming. He was ordained as an Elder in June of 2022 and enjoyed serving the church in leadership. Most importantly, he loved his Lord and Savior...and the Church. Rick is survived by his wife Christine and their children Paul (Sheri) of Rome, Georgia, Richard (Mikaela) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Christopher (Sarah) of Royal Oak, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jocelyn (17), Abigail (13), Brianna (10), Aidan (3), Edwin (2), and Amelie (1). Also surviving him is sister Phyllis Neudecker and brothers, Patrick Hillesheim, Dennis Hillesheim, and Jake Hillesheim, as well as many wonderful in-laws, nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Hillesheim. A funeral service for Rick will be held this Saturday, May 6th at 2 pm at Christ Covenant Church, 800 Fullwood Lane, Matthews, NC. A private interment will be held Sunday, May 7th at 2 pm in Conway, SC at Hillcrest Cemetery.
