Sylvia L Cox

Sylvia Lee Cox, a former resident of Conway, SC passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024 in New York City after a long illness following a stroke in August 2020. She was supported by her loving children, Kimberly Bulkley of Rye, NY and Tyler William (Liam) Bulkley of Boston, MA and her five adoring grandchildren, Isabel, James, Charles, Teddy and Henry. Supporting Sylvia also were Jeffrey Abt, Kim's husband, and Emily Dirsh, Liam's partner. Born on October 28, 1943, in Loris SC, Sylvia was the fifth of ten children of Felder and Thelma (Lewis) Cox. She graduated from Loris High School. She married Tyler Bulkley of Clinton, CT on December 11, 1964 and lived in many places including South Carolina, Libya, Arkansas, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, and finally again South Carolina, including Charleston, Myrtle Beach and finally, and best of all, Conway. Sylvia's greatest pride and joy was her children and grandchildren for whom she would do anything. In turn, they could not imagine a better mother or grandmother. She was loving, kind, thoughtful, selfless and adventurous. When not working as a record-setting salesperson at Rooms-to-Go in Myrtle Beach, Sylvia loved working in her garden and being with her large extended family. She was so happy to return to her roots when she bought her home in Conway on Fifth Avenue. Sylvia put everyone, and everything, ahead of herself. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Kim and son, Liam, as well as her sisters Lucille (Daniel) James, Wanda Suggs, Athene (Lonnie) Smith and her brothers Clayton (Patricia) Cox, Randall (Brenda) Cox, and Russell (Cindy) Cox, her grandchildren Isabel, Jamie, Charlie, Teddy and Henry and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her older sister Vernice Osborne, older brother Clifford and younger brother Royce. Family, friends, and others whose lives Sylvia touched are invited to the Goldfinch Funeral Home, 606 Beaty Street, Conway, SC at 5pm on Friday, February 2, 2024 to reminisce, grieve and support each other.
